Site Issues

Neighbors have been more than tolerant in trying to put up with the negative effects of Blackbird construction, but over the last few months 3 issues have arisen that need to be addressed:  Street parking by construction employees, toxic diesel fumes and constant unnecessary dust from uncovered dirt piles.

Zoning approval documents  VTT-71901-SL Decision 5-22-13 and ZA2012-1388(ZAA)Approval 5-22-13 can be found here for referencing compliance.

If you find other issues please leave your COMMENTS or email us at epneighbors@yahoo.com.

******STREET PARKING FINALLY RESOLVED******

Thanks to the intervention from Council Member Mitch O'Farrell's office's Field Deputy Adam Bass, Blackbirds developers must comply to CM27 -- "LADBS shall require the applicant to have all employees park their personal vehicles outside of the hillside area and utilize a developer-sponsored vanpool system for transport to the site."  Blackbirds developers submitted their plan below. 1. Impossible to find Preston street parking near my home when all those workers park there.

  2. Workers should not be taking up the limited residential parking just like people who work in the entertainment industry don't park at a filming location. Everyone knows that! This is no surprise, this project has had no regard for the area or the residents. They are about bully tactics, cheap materials and maximum profits.

  3. Parking is a getting worse and worse as the construction workers crews increase in size. They are are now expanding their parking to Baxter, in addition to taking all the parking on Vestal and Preston. The other construction site on the N/W corner of Baxter and Vestal is also taking up a lot of parking. Dust is terrible still

  4. Parking everywhere in the neiborhood is getting worse and worse as the crew size of the construction site increases. They ar now also parking on Baxter, and the other construction site - on the N/W corner of Vestal and Baxter is taking all parkings spaces on Baxter and Vestal N. of Baxter. Dust still a huge problem

  5. My wife and I are finding it a struggle to use Baxter and Vestal because they're still parking on both streets. When Montessori parents pick up their kids, it's impossible! I read they're not supposed to park on hillside areas. Can't Mitch O'Farrell do something?

  6. When is Vestal Ave going to be WIDENED? It's a circus at the top - backing up - 3 pointers - nobody can see. Safety is compromised every time parked vehicles cut Vestal down to one lane.

    1. Yea, I'd heard last year they were supposed to widen the street at developer's expense. Guess someone got paid off.

  7. RE: Construction workers parking on Vestal: It is a constant, that is, daily issue. They line the street with their vehicles (they, who are supposed to be shuttled to the worksite from somewhere off the hill). Also, a bunch of the guys frequently have their lunch on the sidewalk in front of Steven’s house (across from #2017), where they often leave their trash. All the while getting up to open and close the doors and trunks of their vehicles parked there.

  8. On July 12th at approximately 11:45 am I was unable to find parking for my car on Preston Av. I spoke with one of the construction workers asking him to move some of their cars so that I could park, since I live there. He informed me that they didn't have to do anything about it, they had a right to park and how did I know that the cars belonged to the workers. At noon, I watched as the workers took their lunch boxes out of their cars. There were three pick up trucks and two cars and so I knew for sure that five of the vehicles belonged to the workers. As a resident on Preston AV I am voicing my complaint on the parking issue and confirming that parking is a problem on both Preston AV and Vestal AV.
